(St. Louis, MO) -- A St. Louis area high school is facing an HIV scare.
Dozens of students and staff at Normandy High School were possibly exposed to the virus that causes AIDS. The St. Louis County Health Department says as many as 50 people may have been exposed to HIV at the high school.
Last week, investigators revealed that an HIV positive person could have had contact with Normandy High School students.
"Some of those individuals who may have been exposed to HIV do not know they have been exposed to HIV and may be spreading the disease unknowingly." says Dr. Dolores Gunn, St. Louis County Health Department.
Stanton Lawrence, St. Louis Public Schools Superintendent, adds, "When it comes to our children's health and something as serious as HIV, I don't think we can afford to try and understate the impact of it."
Oral HIV testing is set to begin at the high school later this week.
