After finishing her first year of law school ranked in the top ten percent of her class, Vanessa Rousso spent the summer traveling around the country competing in professional poker tournaments. She finished first in the Palms Summer Series 200$ Buy-In and 7th (out of 833) at the World Series of Poker in New Orleans. Vanessa started playing poker when she was five and her favorite game is Texas Hold-Em.
Vanessa graduated cum laude from Duke University in two and a half years with a major in economics and a minor in political science in December 2003. She was extremely involved in campus life and leadership positions at Duke. In addition to her involvement with the debate team, the business club, mock trial, and her sorority, Vanessa was the founder and president of the Duke Tax Assistance Program, the vice president of the Moot Court Club, the vice chair of the Duke Honor Council for Academic Integrity, and the spirit chair for the Cleland Selective House. Active in community service as well, Vanessa has volunteered for MADD, Toys and Tales, Walk for the Cure, Palm Beach Youth Court, Make-A-Wish-Foundation, and the Center for Race Relations at Duke. Between undergraduate and law school, Vanessa founded The Celebrity Players Tour Florida, a limited liability company that hosts several Florida-based celebrity golf tournaments for the benefit of charities.
Vanessa, a recipient of the full-tuition Chaplin Scholarship, made the Dean’s List both semesters, received the Dean’s Certificate of Achievement in Legal Research and Writing, was a semi-finalist in the First Year Moot Court Competition, and was active in the Miami Law Women student organization during her first year. Now a second-year student, Vanessa is on the University of Miami Law Review and the Moot Court Board.
Born in White Plains, New York, Vanessa is a dual-citizen of the United States and France. She is fluent in French and proficient in Spanish. When she has free time between law school and poker tournaments, Vanessa’s hobbies are game theory, sky diving, chess, aviation, Rubix Cube, and boating.
