so this week i played two live tournies at the Bike, one an Omaha hi/lo and the other a NLH. Took 3rd place in both, but fuck that -- I was chipleader going into both FTs, and chipleader when 3-handed at the NLH/ 2nd when 3-handed at the oe/b. Both times there was a deal proposed to chop the remaining prizepool, and both times it was refused and i got screwed with 3rd place.
Obv chopping is a bad idea from a strict EV standpoint, but at the smaller ~$300 buy-in tournies, the blinds are up your ass come the final table. For instance, when 3-handed at oe/b, i had about 8 big blinds. And when chipleader when 3-handed at NLH, i had only 17 BB.
I fucked up and passed on the deal for the OE/B, cuz i would get less than 2nd place money and felt like i was the best player at the table. 3 hands later, i was out with half as much as I would've made by taking the deal. Then just last nite @ the NLH, i had 200k of the total 500k chips (6k/12k blinds) in play, to the other 2 players 160k and 140k. The total D-bag with the 140k said he would chop but only if it was an even chop (about $11k apiece). I said i'd be open to a mathematical chop, ie based on chip counts, but he refused. Said take it or leave it, I told him he had a lotta balls telling me he wanted the same as me from last place. Said i'd take 13k and they could split the rest, which is still totally in their favor, but D-bag said no. Was a real prick about it too. Obv they both targeted me & started pushing on me every hand, and i was out 4 hands later in 3rd for only $4600.
So whatever. Just venting. I should be happy about the two deep cashes, but all i can think about is how i cost myself over $8k in chop money cuz variance is a motherfucker. And cuz there was no way in hell i was giving a total D-bag an even chop when he was acting like a prick and i had 50% more chips then him. Fuck him & the $13k he and the other dude ended up with after i went out in 3rd.
Lame.
