I previously quoted Mark Blade from his book Professional Poker: The Essential Guide To Playing For A Living on his recommended bankroll for a no limit expert in a lower variance 100BB game. He recommended 800 big blinds, or 8 buyins. Pretty much everyone seemed to disagree. I had doubts about it myself. But having read a few posts he made on 2+2, I now have a much clearer understanding of where he is coming from. The following post (and another one following it) spell out his rationale for the seemingly rash recommendation.

For some reason it took me a year to put two and two together (twoplustwo pun not intended), but I just remembered something that happened a year ago that I'm sure some of you will enjoy gossipping about and may even come up again in the future, although I may have waited too long to pen my mouth.

Some of you may recall how Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy busted out of the 2005 WPT Championship: with 50/100 blinds he had KK, Johnny Chan had AA, and on the flop Bax bet 2K, Chan raised to 13K and then claimed he meant to raise to 5K and had mistaken the chip denominations he was putting through his sunglasses. This prompted Bax to move in for around 50K and Chan immediately called. Cardplayer covered this in a live update log.

Just a day or two after this, late at night or early in the morning I forget, I randomly railed a $100+9 on stars and noticed that Bax was playing. At his table, I said something like "Hey Johnny, that was a tough beat against Chan," to which he responded verbatim "thanks, i hope he dies." This is a 100% accurate account and if somebody could cajole Stars into digging up the chat logs for all of the $100+9 tournament tables that JohnnyBax played at over a 48-hour span from after he busted out of the WPT, I guarantee you will find it.

Why didn't I open my big mouth about this earlier? Honestly I didn't think it was that big a deal because people say stuff in the heat of the moment, but later I realized it had the potential to be pretty funny if enough people found out about it and needled him in forums like this. Then the scandals about Gavin Griffin and David Williams came out, and it jarred my memory about Bax. I realize this isn't of quite the same magnitude as the sacm/penis show and pornstar scandals, but I'm sure some people will have fun with it and maybe the story will grow if those two ever meet each other late in a tournament again. Again I'm not as pro as some of you guys who are waiting in the bushes for this kind of stuff and post it the next day but for what it's worth, here's my little scandalous contribution to this forum.

Hi everyone, this is Lee Jones, the cardroom manager of PokerStars! I have some exciting news for you all about our main embassador, Tom McEvoy. Tom entered the $200+15 No Limit Heads Up Matches, and was doing very well, winning his first four matches. With just eight players left, his next opponent was one of our most notorious cheaters, 22inchrims, known by most online forum communities as Steve Da Pimp. His impressive resume includes hacking, scamming, and stealing thousands of dollars of honest people's money on PokerStars, and probably other less esteemed poker sites as well. Of course Tom's totally my dog and I was railing him the whole tournament, so of course I was rooting for him to bust out Da Pimp and show the PokerStars community what happens to cheaters. Of course, I had the "random number generator" working in top form, to make sure Tom got plenty of quality starting hands to play. But on the third hand, Da Pimp busted him! Here's how it went down.

PokerStars Game #4110417182: Tournament #20002613, Hold'em No Limit - Match Round V, Level I (160/320) - 2006/02/26 - 20:09:34 (ET)
Table '20002613 1' One on One Seat #2 is the button
Seat 1: 22inchrims (24480 in chips)
Seat 2: Tom McEvoy (23520 in chips)
Tom McEvoy: posts small blind 160
22inchrims: posts big blind 320
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Tom McEvoy: raises 640 to 960
22inchrims: raises 2240 to 3200
Tom McEvoy: raises 20320 to 23520 and is all-in
22inchrims: calls 20320
*** FLOP *** [5c 9d Ah]
*** TURN *** [5c 9d Ah] [6c]
*** RIVER *** [5c 9d Ah 6c] [2c]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
22inchrims: shows [Kh Ac] (a pair of Aces)
Tom McEvoy: shows [As Qc] (a pair of Aces - lower kicker)
22inchrims collected 47040 from pot
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 47040 | Rake 0
Board [5c 9d Ah 6c 2c]
Seat 1: 22inchrims (big blind) showed [Kh Ac] and won (47040) with a pair of Aces
Seat 2: Tom McEvoy (button) (small blind) showed [As Qc] and lost with a pair of Aces

That's right, renowned cheater Steve Da Pimp busted my best friend and gay sex partner Tom McEvoy! I'm going to email my own brown-nosing support staff to complain about Steve's incredibly undeserved luck streak and see if they can follow our biggest rival PartyPoker's lead and take the money he wins from the tournament. And maybe it will help me get into bed with Mike Sexton smile.gif.

As for Tom McEvoy, he had his typical shitty payout after spending hours playing the tournament and just barely making the money. Fucking moron, he plays too few hands. He never bluffs either. Now that I think about it, he SUCKS ASS at poker. I hereby announce Tom McEvoy's retirement from PokerStars so I can hire a REAL player: PHIL HELLMUTH!

Score.
