I do a ton of entertaining at my house outside because I love to grill and I have a pool. Because of this I keep a trash can and recycling bin outside on my patio. Lately something has been coming onto my patio and knocking the trash can over and spreading the trash all over my backyard. I'd imagine it's a fucking raccoon.
I need some help deciding how to remedy this problem. Poison is out of the question because I have 2 cats and a dog. I could shoot the damn thing with a variety of weapons. I have a .45cal Springfield 1911, a .22cal pistol, a 9mm or a more traditional compound bow. The problem with shooting it is that since the god forsaken things are nocturnal the only time I would have the opportunity is at night. I live in the suburbs and I doubt my neighbors or family members would appreciate being awakened at 2am by a clip of .45acp getting unloaded into the stripe faced bastard.
I really think the best idea is luring the fucker into the lawn next to my patio with some fresh trash. Is there anything these little fuckers just love to eat? Is he going to be scared away by the minimal lights I am going to need to be able to see well enough to cap him between the eyes?
I think the best solution is to use the .22cal pistol since it will be the quietest of my options besides the bow, and I don't really want to get that hands on. Obviously if the family wakes up I throw the corpse in the woods and deny everything?
I need ideas for bait, because I need to lure him away from my patio. If he is on my patio and I shoot at him but miss I could damage shit too easily.
Is there anything else I should know before I attempt this tomorrow night?
