http://www.instructables.com/id/Uni-Direct...Range-Extender/Okay, so I'm in La Paz, Bolivia (Lower Irpavi subdivision) staying in a penthouse with no hot-water heater, no gas-heater, and no internet besides dial-up.
When I first got here I inquired about the internets because in La Paz there are internet Cafe's about every 200 yards. These internet Cafe's have DSL ranging from 256k - 1.5mbs which is still shit compared to comcast cable.
1.5mbs DSL internet in La Paz $70usd/month. Cable internet 100$/month. Shit is fucking outrageous but this is the poorest country in South America and apparently Cable internet is still new to them. Not only this but I was told that I cannot get DSL at this penthouse because Irpavi is currently too flooded with DSL connections or some bullshit answer.
So my internal laptop card could pick-up a very weak Linksys router from my bedroom but the connection bounced between 4% - 8% and if I moved around from a certain spot, the connection would drop. It was pissing me off, I couldn't even upload pictures or view websites while streaming radio. After doing a little looking around I found that instructable and decided to give it a shot. I had to look around for awhile and finally found probably the ONLY place in this fucking city that sold USB-wifi adapters and was able to grab a D-Link dongle for $45usd (rip-off).
A little bit more looking around and I was able to find the little strainer thing like in the instructable. I rigged the thing together but instead of mounting the receiver in the center I sort of just set it in front.
Now have a 24-28% connection that doesn't donk off and can surf the net much better, assuming that the dish is pointed in the right direction.
This is obviously a great idea because now I have DSL internet without having to pay the outrageous price. Obv 100% illegal in the states but what are the odds you get caught? Totally grab free net from far away doing this.
