The Brooklyn actor who played Johnny Cakes — the gay-fireman lover of a mob capo on "The Sopranos" — killed himself in a holiday tragedy that has stunned family and friends.

The front door to John Costelloe's Sunset Park home was still sealed with police stickers yesterday, more than a week after the rugged 47-year-old actor committed suicide.

Costelloe, a former FDNY firefighter, shot himself in the head in his basement bedroom on Dec. 16, cops and pals said.

Costelloe had a crucial four-episode arc on "The Sopranos" in 2006, playing short-order cook Jim "Johnny Cakes" Witowski.

In the hit HBO series, actor Joseph Gannascoli - a longtime friend of Costelloe's - played mobster and closeted homosexual Vito Spatafore, who fled New Jersey after he was outed.

"I was shocked when I heard, and it still hasn't really sunk in," Gannascoli told the Post. "I never detected anything troubling about him. I enjoyed all the time I ever spent with him."

Why I am the way I am.

Most of you have wondered why I am the way that I am. Was I raped as a child? Beat up as a kid? Miserable life? Well, the answer is no to all of them. Actually, I grew up in an upper middle class neighborhood , and had a very normal childhood. I did notice at a young age I took pleasure in seeing others fail or hurt themselves. I don't mean like sick shit, I mean stupid stuff like seeing a kid cry cause he lost his wallet(because I stole it or popping a kids bike tire just to ruin his day. As I grew older it just stayed with me. It still isn't sick shit, I just enjoy ruining somebody's day. I root for the bad guy at the movies. I laugh at the old lady who falls down. I hate seeing others happy. It isn't jealousy as I am quite content and rather happy with my life. I would rather watch somebody lose $5000, than win $500 myself. Seeing a kid cry makes me happy. I'm not saying that to sound tough, it's just the way I am. Anyone I attack on this board, it isn't personal. If I can ruin your day, it makes mine. I am not here to make friends. All of you can die tomorrow or live forever, and I don't give a shit which. I think most of you have come to accept me for what I am, and not take me to seriously. If not, suck my man stick.
