He should at least be nominated for some awards for this roll. I'll state it again...Thank Fucking Aronofsky that Cage didn't get this roll. Wouldn't have been the same movie.

I was going to wait to watch this in the theatre, but I don't even know if my sht burg is getting it any time soon, so I broke down and watched it.. (http://www.watch-movies.net/ so you don't have that god damn megavideo bs)
I thought it was stunningly beautiful and sad. It was a great movie about realistically capturing an old wrestler's life.. but more than that, much more than that. It is about the choices we make, about who we are.. and those choices can't just be undone over night because you feel regret. For better or worse, he was a wrestler.. he couldn't live any other way, couldn't be any other thing.
I swear to god this might be the best acting performance I've ever seen. I think it's on par ( and quite possibly superior to) Robert Deniro in Raging bull ( And I don't say this lightly). Mickey had to completely transform himself, there's no doubt he had to do massive 'roids and bulk up, and he had to do actual wrestling moves.. I don't thnk he used a body double much if at all... It was just a remarkable performance.

rourke has been badass since 'angel heart' imo, but was absolutely amazing in the wrestler i always thought he was one of, if not THE most underrated actors out there

It's because he's been such a train wreck.. he's had a career much like the wrestler's, which makes the movie all the more interesting..

Saw it today and enjoyed it.
Yeah. So so movie, but the performance was really good. Will win an Oscar.
Agree with the above post, stylistically, lot of early Scorcese in that movie:

Actually, I think I'd bet on Sean Penn to win the oscar, as Milk is a higher profile movie and So many fags and fag friendly people will be voting for the Oscar. And Penn deserves to win it for milk, in almost any other year.

Golden Globes Odds: Rourke’s Revival Could Pay Big Submitted by Carrie Stroup on Sat, 01/10/2009 - 12:48.
Mickey Rourke's return to the big screen may not only pay off for his career, but it could land betters a good payday too. Sportsbook.com has all the latest betting odds.
Rourke, who revived his acting career with an outstanding performance in the movie ‘The Wrestler', is listed at +225 odds at Sportsbook.com to win a Golden Globe award for Best Dramatic Actor this Sunday.
Movie buffs can wager on the winners for the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Here's a look at the odds offered here at Sportsbook.com.
Sean Penn (+150), Mickey Rourke (+225), Frank Langella (+350), Brad Pitt (+500), Leonardo DiCaprio (+550)
More of the experts feel this is a two-man race. Penn for his dead-on portrayal of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man voted into office in America, and who was shot dead in 1978.
Rourke is a great challenger for this award as a broken down professional wrestler who's not ready to give up. That fact this role in ‘The Wrestler' will revive Rourke's career also helps his chances of winning.
Meryl Streep (+175), Kate Winslet (+250), Anne Hathaway (+250), Angelina Jolie (+500), Kristin Scott Thomas (+500)
Streep has a powerful role in the movie ‘Doubt' where she questions whether the parish priest is acting inappropriately with an altar boy back in 1964 Bronx, New York.
Winslet's character in ‘Revolutionary Road' is involved in a marriage going badly downhill for a couple that moves from Manhattan to the suburbs in the 1950's.
Hathaway has been the slight upset pick of many for her performance in ‘Rachel Getting Married' and voters will like the fact this is her first high profile dramatic role.
Slumdog Millionaire (+Even), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (+250), Revolutionary Road (+350), Frost/Nixon (+500), The Reader (+800)
‘Slumdog Millionaire' is the heavy favorite as it tells a compelling story of hope in addition to portraying the hardship of growing up in the slums of India.
‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' has been compared to ‘Forrest Gump' with Brad Pitt getting the lead role. This movie ties for the lead with ‘Doubt' and ‘Frost/Nixon' with five total Golden Globe nominations.
Heath Ledger (-1000), The Field, i.e. any other actor (+500)
Ledger got tremendous reviews for his mesmerizing role as the Joker in ‘The Dark Knight'. The fact he's the sentimental pick after tragically passing away doesn't hurt either.
Philip Seymour Hoffman as the priest in ‘Doubt' leads ‘The Field' category.
Penelope Cruz (-110), Kate Winslet (+200), Viola Davis (+300), Amy Adams (+800), Marisa Tomei (+800)
Cruz is the solid favorite for her role in ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona', while Winslet is being nominated in ‘The Reader' after getting a Best Dramatic Actress nomination in ‘Revolutionary Road'.
Tomei is getting support playing a vulnerable stripper in ‘The Wrestler', so she is very interesting at these long-shot odds.

What are the numbers regarding winning the Globe and then the Oscar? I know there are more queer-friendly people in Hollywood, but he just took the Globe.
