Not only is it not going to be the same pet with the same personality, it may not even look the same. The first cat those guy's cloned was a mixed breed regular house cat. The resulting kitten had the same DNA, but looked very different.

You can get a pet more similar to your old one by going to the Humane Society than by cloning them for thousands and thousands of dollars.

The cloning process now is flawed and risky.

However, in theory, a clone of your pet WOULD be like a "twin brother/twin sister" of the original. Provided that you raise the pet under similar circumstances to its original environment, yes, it would indeed be almost an exact copy of your previous pet. That's what people are going for.

Animals are indeed predisposed genetically to have certain personality traits. Often "mean" dogs and cats are born that way -- and their less-than-friendly personalities are not the fault of their owners. On the flip side, often you will find that the truly nice animals were that way naturally, and weren't "forced" into civility through training.

I had a wonderful dog who died in 2001 that didn't have a mean bone in her body. I would have paid a large sum of money if that dog could have been cloned and resulted in the same genetic animal.

That's really interesting. I'm just not sure that it would be profitable right now to do that. You would have to win a LOT of horse races to make up the cost of using really cutting edge technology that does not work very well.

From
http://equisearch.com/care/breeding/horsecloning_072905/

"Cloning your horse will cost you $367,350 plus a patent royalty fee of 15% based on the number of clones produced and their estimated value, according to Peter Kagel, founder and president of horsecloning.com."

Also, I don't know if a cloned horse would be healthy enough to race. The small numbers of cloned mammals born so far have had a lot of health problems. Many of them have died young of diseases usually associated with very old animals.

Here's a short thing about Dolly the sheep dying at half of a sheep's life expectancy.

Mr. Dirty, you forgetting that Mafia able do things cheaper becasue they operating unregulated laboratory facility. Also, they not want race purse, they want put their horse in little race at little track and bet heavy at 80-1 odds. Think you about cost of breed and purchase horse with superior bloodline, and it becoming quite cost effective even if you experiencing of high mortality rate.

I think you're overestimating the power of the 21st century mafia. Even the best biomed labs with top scientists can barely pull off a mammal clone. I just don't think it could be done in a warehouse. Also, just because your hourse has awesome genes, that doesn't mean it's healthy or trained well or ridden well.

I think Wong might have some inside Triad knowledge that he is holding back on us. Wong, you need any investers? We will slow play the horse to barely qualifying for the 2008 Kentucky Derby.
