Bought my wife a mini cooper last year, registration renewal form comes, sits in a pile on my desk and I just notice it... go online to pay the fee ($365) and they want to fuck me up the ass for another $200 for a late fee. Turns out I missed 2 deadlines, last one was 2 days ago and would have been a $90 penalty.

So, what are the odds that if I get up early, head to the dmv, and try and jew them down on the late fee that they give me a break? I'm thinking its less than a 5% chance. Those miserable fucks that work at the DMV are soulless.

I'll report back the result.

Avoid the DMV like the plague! Never seen a place where the people hate their jobs more. Your odds are 0% on being successful. It's funny our governor got elected on the promise of reducing registration fees but they went right back up again this year.

It wont save you on the fees but if you aren't already a member of AAA, you should join. They can handle most DMV transactions in their office thus you avoid long lines and miserable people at the DMV. Well worth the $70 per year for that alone!

WTF a late fee?

When I was 17 I didn't have a job and I was 8 months late on my registration and there wasn't a dime worth of late fees. I just told them I hadn't been driving the car so I had no need to register it, now I need to drive it so I am registering it.

Wow your registration fees are ridiculous. It goes by lbs. in Texas and both my Sequioa and Wifes RR were under $70.

Maybe you could say that you werent driving the car and that it was in the shop. I feel like I told Texas that one time and it worked.

Ours are horrible too. I usually pay between $300-$400 every year.

In California you have to pay a fee even if you are not driving it....it is cheaper then registering it but if you fail to get a Certificate of Non-Operation, the late fees will continue to add on. California registration rates are based on the value of the car with the price being slightly depreciated each year.

Holy shit your fees are ridiculous! I have never really looked into it before but I never thought that fees in other states were so high.

Here I thought the $100 registration for my truck (with a $10 late fee) was rediculous....

CA DMV will make you sign some sort of affidavit saying you didn't receive the reg notice and they'll waive it.

I'd call up pissed off as fuck asking them if they're ever going to cash your registration check because it's fucking up balancing your checkbook. They'll click keys, say they never recieved it, you go on tirade about how fucked up their system is, they likely waive penalty and you pay original cost over the phone on CC.

I didn't mind the snow too much when I was younger, but it is really starting to wear on me. Funny, I was just talking to my wife the other day how we should just pack up and move to Texas; If she didn't have the job that she has, we probably would.

CA sucks. Least I got to work on my Spanish at the DMV all day.
