Living at McCarran Airport?, Im probably going to be homeless soon

I have pretty much busted my poker bankroll and the little money I have left was supposed to go for living expenses, but I really need it for poker now. Im unemployed and like Micon I dont have plans of ever working for the man.

My plan is to live at McCarran Airport while I build my bankroll back up through live cash games and online play and then satellite into some WSOP events. My ultimate goal is winning a WSOP bracelet or 2 and becoming a FullTilt Red Pro.

I think the Airport would be a perfect place to stay for a few months. They dont seem to mind if you lay down on the floor in a corner and take a nap. They also have free WiFi, so I can play online poker and surf the net whenever I need to. I can get free/cheap transportation to the strip casinos and other Las Vegas locations using the shuttle buses and city buses. I could also make a little cash for food by hustling tips from the tourists by helping them with their luggage and stuff.

But I think the biggest selling point is that the airport has a 24 Hour Fitness center that I could join for about $20 a month. Not only could I stay in shape but this would give me access to storage lockers for my laptop and other personal items. I would also be able to shower there and use the bathroom stalls when the need for self pleasuring arises. Being a member of the club would give me a reason to be at the airport everyday so security hopefully wouldnt have reason to kick me out.

Obviously it would suck sleeping on the floor of the airport every night, but If I can use the money saved to build my bankroll up and have a successful WSOP this year it will be well worth it.

You think this is a feasible plan for the next 2-3 months or until I get back on my feet?

If I had a laptop and a bankroll I would give serious consideration.

You would have to leave the airport from like 11p-7a and hope that the health club lets you keep a lock on a locker.

Why is this? Im pretty sure the airport is open 24 hours a day. I often see people taking naps on the floors especially when flights are canceled or delayed and they are stuck at the airport for an extended amount of time. They never seen to be bothered by security.

I checked with the 24 Hour Fitness center about the lockers. They said they will mark a lock to be cut if they notice its been on the same locker for over 24 hours. So I just have to move my shit to different lockers after I take my daily shower.

You will get seen by the same staff on multiple nights, which means you are squatting and not waiting for a plane the next morning due to weather on the back end etc. and could be arrested for trespassing, during the day/early evening, there is so much commotion that you'll blend in.

Keep us updated on how this plan goes. Pretty amusing/interesting.

I agree though, the problem is once you start hanging out at the airport, security will start to recognize you and you'll be booted.

depending on how old you are, you could always just post up at a gas station all day and tell people your car ran out of gas on the freeway, my favorite line was "excuse me maam, my car ran out of gas on the freeway, can you spare some gas money?". however often times i was so high on crack i would get to the chick at the pump and i would pop a raging boner and would say something like, "excuse me maam, you would make for one fine cock pocket, would you like to play hide the salami?" even though i had every intention to just harrass her for some crack money... anyways, first, if she asks you what you're gonna put the gas in, either say hopefully they've got something in the garage that i can use - make sure to keep it ambiguous about whether anyone has anything for you to put the gas in so the person doesn't shoot a long line of questions at you, or if you're feeling lucky and the person seems trusting say that you have to purchase a gas can as well to carry the gas to your car - this maneuver has gone wrong for me MANY times, and i have ended up costing the helpful person like 20 bucks cause they bought me a gas can with a gallon of gas in it... so make sure all systems are go before you mention needing a gas can too. if they toss you anything less than five you just say, thanks that's an awesome start and hit up some more people - five or more - you go inside and use the bathroom for a few minutes until the person who gave you the money leaves- i used to make about 150 a day doing this when i was a homeless crackhead - works like magic - i got a 40 spot on like three different occasions - and twenty spots at least once a day... just save up your wages for like a week and you'll have a solid 15/30 roll - if you lose in the first 30 minutes to an hour, just go hit up someone's front lawn, or find a really ghetto apartment complex with an unsupervised lobby with couches in it - those are great places to catch some z's at night - just make sure you flip the coach cushions over because they have most likely been pissed on on several different occasions.

This is a great post, but definitely not a great situation. I only hope things work out for you, cause I've always thought you're a good guy, and were always one of my favorite posters when you used to post a lot. I really don't know what to tell you other than good luck. I think that you will be able to pull this off for a bit, but 2-3 months is probably too much time. If this was pre 9/11 this probably would be do-able, but security, especially at McCarran is very tough. I'm trying to think of alternative plans, but I'm coming up empty right now. If I think of anything I will definitely post about it in this thread.

how will you actually get past security to get to a gate to sleep? i never see people sleeping in other parts of the airport.

niggerheeb, my buddy used to live at Sea-Tac when he was poor.

would sleep on the benches in the section of the airport that was pretty vacant.

he would also ask people for money, say he was a stranded traveler, etc. it worked well.

Thanks for all the advice/help guys. I will obviously have to rethink my plan and find alternative places to stay if I do indeed have to go homeless. Hopefully it wont come to that, but I always like to plan for the worst. At least the weather should be nice here the next few months, so being outside shouldnt be a major problem. I still have close to 3 weeks left before my rent is due so hopefully I can make a profit at the tables with the money I have. I think the cash games will be especially juicy opening weekend of the NCAA BBall tourney.

LOL@Heeb.. $150 a day is pretty impressive for you gas station scam. Ill keep that in mind if I get real desperate.
