WSOP Main Event, +EV Gamble?

Micon mentioned this many times on radio. Explain plz.

I believe it's because professionals are said to have an extremely high ROI in the ME. Whether this is true or not, I couldn't tell you.

Micon = one of the top 10-15% of the field, thus he is a good investment.

10-15% is probably pushing it. 25% is more like it. I mean its gonna be a very similar field to the 1500 events where he couldn't get much going.

But gl micon and any NWPer's playing it. What day are they playing?

What about the thought that many of the professionals try to accumulate as many chips early as possible or go out, so that they can either have a HUGE stack for the later levels, or go out early and immediately head to the cash games, to play against less skilled players that already got knocked out of the tourney and are trying to now chase their loses or figure what the hell...Im already here with nothing to do, might as well play some of these famous guys?

7,000 entrants - 1,000 pros, internet wiz kids, guys that won't go DD w/top-top in the first level = $60,000,000 in dead money. The main event is the best structure of any tourney ever. There is more time in the Main to "get chips" than in other tourneys. A competent tourney player has $25k-$30k worth of equity when he registers for $10k.. super pros have more. Remember - largest tourney by about 10X. So many bad players... and I mean soooo many. Getting a tough early table is a bad beat.

1) I "got something going" in just about every WSOP event I played. In addition to the $28k cash (in a $1500 event.. 15/2400... this is almost getting something going?) that even if I was backed I would still come out $15k+ ahead as of this point. Also I at least doubled in every NL event I played except for 1 I believe. $2500NL, run it to $33k and bust on German slow-roll last hand of day ( also I finish top 9% here when they pay 7%) . $1500 NL first 1 work $3k --> $15kish... + the others were not that bad either. Almost made the $ in 2 other tourneys in addition to the $28k... so I would say I had something going in just about every event I entered this year

2) The main event is NOTHING like the $1500 events. The ME is very baller-heavy, i.e. old guy that owns shipping company that says fuck it and bounces to Vegas for a week. The $1500 events are a lot of young kids taking their only shot @ WSOP, while the main is filled w/dudes that won a sat on the internet + baller types. Either way they all suck. Also instead of the crapshoot $3k in chips for $1500 events the Main ships you $20k stack and 2 hr levels. Big advantage for good players... way more than the must-double situation you start in the $1500s.




When the Main is 700 handed, when 90% of the field has been eliminated yes there will be pros with big stacks. Depending on luck, between 50 and 250 pros will be left when we are 700 handed and in the money. yes some will have a big stack but most will be out. The '06 run, when there was about 10 tables left I looked around and found about 10-15 big name pros or kids whose game I seriously respect. My tables during the 06 main were never "hard" - meaning there was always at least 4 really bad players at every table I played. Either super nits that are terrified to play a hand so you rape their blinds, or super-agro kid that I watched at 10k-20k w/1k ante SHIP IN $1M UTG ALL IN FIRST TO ACT, everyone folds and he shows AK. lol maineventaments.
