LOL @ this commercial and the ridiculous backlash.. Taking "PC" a little too far..? What's with the focus group of only blacks and a Chinese dude (objective reporting anyone)? Obviously the Japanese had know idea this was even considered racist -- its their damn mascot for Jesus' sake.

And before you crucify me and slap the "hater" on me.. I understand the unspoken connotations associated with this ad but shouldn't intent be SOMEWHAT important in judging how "racist" this ad is?

1)I have no idea why the black guys in Japan can be so upset, considering the amount of poon thrown at most non-japanese people living there. Indian friend of mine here in Boston got no play. Over there, he has 3 hot Japanese girls he's dating. If your getting blowjobs on the reg, I think that a dumb commerical shouldn't be a big deal.

2) It's a different culture, and the Temple professor is a moron for saying, "naiveness shouldn't be an excuse."

3) It's moments like this where I kind of long for Communism. Imagine these black dudes coming out and speaking against a Chinese company IN China? They'd get shot on the spot.

The problem is we live in a culture that is so easily offended that we have to "walk on eggshells" to make sure that SOMEONE isn't offended by something we say or do. I dunno.. I guess the point that I was trying to make was that other cultures that aren't as concerned with being "PC" don't see things in as much of a racist / non-racist dynamic. The Japanese didn't even realize this was racist as they don't associate black people with monkeys. Obviously in primarily homogeneous societies, such as in Japan, there will be less open racism. But don't get me wrong, I do realize that the Japanese can be very racist and their racism is more subtle than overt (which can be even more dangerous). But in this case I believe it was just a situation of as Shomer said (god am I agreeing with Shomer?), a society imposing their political correctness onto another country.

The monkey was a mascot for the companies product. It was not meant to insinuate that Obama was a monkey.

This is just a case of two different societies seeing two different things.
