This isn't the NWP radio that you're used to.
This is NWP's new "serious" radio show -- hosted by me, airing every other Thursday at 10pm EDT/7pm PDT.
This more structured show will tackle serious issues involving poker, blackjack, sportsbetting, general gambling, as well as life-related issues that the typical poker player might face.
Each show will deal with one particular subject that will be discussed in depths. Some relevant guests will be lined up, and calls from the listeners will be taken. The phone number for the show is 702-430-1808 (different than the phone number for the main NWP Wednesday show).
On some weeks (this one included), there will be a secondary topic discussed. When discussion of the planned topics is concluded, the show will end.
The point of this show is to be informative, not entertaining or humorous. If you are looking for a show with a more degenerative or humorous angle, listen to the weekly Wednesday show.
THIS WEEK'S TOPICS:
When playing heads-up poker online, you never know what person you're really facing. But what if your opponent isn't a person at all? Poker bots have been around for years. A group at the University of Alberta even did extensive research into designing Limit Hold 'Em bots, eventually working that research into a commercially-available poker training program. But what if those same bots -- perhaps even more sophisticated ones -- were released into the online real money scene? Would they win? Could anyone beat them? Is it fair? What are the far-reaching ramifications of such a thing? And, most importantly, is this actually happening in reality?
I have been an online Limit Hold 'Em player for a long time, and have played countless heads-up sessions at high limits. I believe that I personally have faced several bots, with varying degrees of success and failure. I will discuss my feelings about these bots, as well as how to spot them and the best strategy to take against them (if you are ballsy enough to continue playing!)
We will have as many as 3 guests on the show. None have confirmed, but I'd say we're at least even money to get at least 2 of them on -- and perhaps we'll get all three. One is an old-school bot designer who has actually written a bot that has played on Pokerstars. Another is a woman whose account was shut down on Full Tilt -- very possibly unjustly -- for botting. She lost over 80k as a result of the closure. The third possible guest is "Crazy Mike" (known by some as Mr. Gatorade), a fanatical anti-bot crusader and heads-up specialist.
As a secondary topic, we'll discuss taxes and how they relate to poker and gambling. Tax day might have passed, but I know that a number of you degenerates still haven't filed. This important topic is rarely covered, so I'll give it a short time as a secondary segment of the show.
10:00 EDT / 7:00 PDT tonight (Thursday 4/17)
BE THERE, SUCKA!
