i might be moving to vegas soon, not confirmed...but i wanted to know where is the best place to look for a house? henderson, summerlin? i am looking to spend around 200-300k and just wanted to get a good idea what a good neighborhood is. living with a girl so 3+ bedroom is fine and an apartment or something else you shove money into with no return on an investment is out of the question...whats my best option?

Sorry man, just saw this. Personally I prefer Green Valley over every area in Vegas, and have recommended it many times to people moving here. The people that have taken my advice have all been very pleased, and there have been many. It's also the absolute perfect time to buy a house. For the money you are looking to spend you can definitely find something very nice, in a great location.

The reasons I prefer Henderson (especially Green Valley) are...

1. Almost always close to the highway, traffic is not near as bad as other parts of town. You can always avoid 95, which trust me is a good thing.

2. Very easy drive to the strip and surrounding areas.

3. Very close with easy access to the airport.

4. Crime is lower than the rest of Las Vegas. Henderson has their own police force, and they are not understaffed like Metro.

5. No matter where you live it is always convenient. Most everything you will need in your life will be within 5 miles of your home.

6. Everything is new, but established. You won't run into constant road work and construction like you will in South West and Summerlin areas.

7. Close to Lake Mead and Lake Las Vegas.

8. Great shopping and restaurants with the District at Green Valley Ranch, and the Galleria mall.

9. Many areas with a great view of the strip, especially off of Horizon Ridge Dr.

I'm sure there is more that I am forgetting cause it's late and I'm stoned. Let me know what areas you are looking into and I will give you more info on specifics.

Green Valley FTW!!!!

Green Valley is where I live, and it is the nuts. Easy access to major poker (215 and 95 access is very good, compared to other areas), and there is more of a sense of community here (I have lived in Silverado Ranch and Southern Highlands).
