QUOTE(reggiman @ Jul 8 2008, 01:03 AM) QUOTE(SetofKs @ Jul 7 2008, 04:42 PM) okay, thanks for all the help everybody. And yeah Martha, I probably will PM you about places to live when the time gets closer. Right now im just trying to get a general idea of how much this will cost. With the way the Real Estate market has tanked I'm currently looking into buying some condos in Vegas to rent out and maybe even a baller mansion like X just bought... although probably the condos first. Ks check with me before you move, I might have something to rent you. Sounds good. I'll shoot you a message in 5 months or so when the time gets a little closer.

QUOTE(MiconsGirl @ Jun 27 2008, 07:13 PM) QUOTE(Jim Morrison @ Jun 27 2008, 01:12 PM) I recommend Southern Highlands. My place is a nice 5500 sq feet for 4k a month. This is probably out of the price range of some of the guys in this thread (they are not balling out yet like Mr. Morrison ). If you're looking for an inexpensive ($700-1000) one bedroom not in the ghetto check out a couple of miles west of the strip - near Chinatown and Spring Valley area. There are plenty of gated apartment/condo complexes with pools, 24 hour gyms etc for very cheap. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinatown,_Las_Vegashttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Valley,_NevadaI live very close to Chinatown and love the area. The big pluses imo: I feel safe, there are so many outstanding Asian restaurants around, it's like 10 minutes to the strip (5 if the lights go your way), 15 minutes to the airport. If anyone wants to pm about places to live, feel free. Bryan and I are moving soon to a place that allows pets so I've been looking a good bit. We are definitely going to stay in the same area. hell yeah! i went walking west of the rio a couple months ago and looked at some of the places near valley view -- north of the palms. they look decent enough but hard to tell. didnt see any criminal negroes running around. i could get rehired as a cook either palms gold coast or rio and walk to work and then hang with druff on off days.

I would recommend this apartment to anyone moving to Vegas- http://www.hamptongardenapartments.com/uni...loorplan_id=865I lived there for 2 years and it's a good deal for $1020. Just don't expect them to fix anything. It's on the West side, but right near 215 so you can get to the Strip in 10-15 minutes.

QUOTE(Epistate @ Oct 10 2008, 02:01 AM) for anyone that is talking about living close enough to the strip to walk places, I think you are underestimating a few things:
1. How close things really are (strip is like the beach, ie "lets walk to the pier and back") 2. How shitty those places are 3. How fucking hot it gets
Some days walking to your car almost is too much This is so true, and other than the view I've never understood why places like Turnberry Place and the other strip condos can demand such a huge premium over stuff off the strip. Is being "on the strip" really worth a 2 million dollar premium on a 2000sq condo?

QUOTE(reggiman @ Oct 9 2008, 07:29 PM) slight hijack, but I'm coming to Vegas next weekend and I'm thinking of doing some condo shopping to use as an place to stay for the wsop/when I bring the family out. I'd prolly rent it out the other 10 months out of the year though. Anyone know any places in particular in the 200k range that are super nice that I could get a great deal on?
I am insanely terrified of killer bugs (black widows, scorpions), and I'm not sure about how many floors up these things can go, but I might prefer a high rise if it keeps those things away from my sheets and shoes at night. They have a lot of those in Vegas? I live in the next desert over, and have never seen anything like that crawling around. I think maybe it's too hot for anything but lizards.

He told me later that the box (that was open at the top two inches from my face when I carried it in) had a big fucking widow in it.

QUOTE(reggiman @ Oct 10 2008, 10:17 AM) QUOTE(vegas1369 @ Oct 10 2008, 06:10 PM) We have tons of Black Widows and scorpions. When you get new palm trees most of the time they have these scorpions in them that you usually can only see at night under a black light, pretty freaky shit. I had a Black Widow living on my back porch all summer. I don't fuck with them, and they eat up all the bugs. Thing is they NEVER leave their nest, and it is always built against a wall where they can crawl under something during the day. The thing you have to watch out for out here is the Brown Recluse, they are a mother fucker. Yeah... fuck that shit too Yeah, and the real bitch about these spiders is that they wander anywhere. Like I said, Black Widows very rarely, if ever, leave their web (which I call a nest cause it ends up looking more like a nest than a web), but the Recluse will actually go everywhere looking for food. Most of the time people get bit by one of these fuckers cause they were in a shoe, a pair of pants, a shirt, or even under your sheets in your bed. Few rules when you live out here about spiders... 1. Always shake out your clothes and shoes before putting them on and check under your sheets before hitting the sack, especially in newly built up areas like the south west part of town, and 2. When outdoors never walk along walls at night, especially walls near bushes. I've lived here a little over 7 years and am slacking on rule #1, hopefully it doesn't come back to bite me in the future.

QUOTE(SetofKs @ Oct 11 2008, 02:37 PM) How much does it cost to buy a decent house in a decent part of town there? I heard the housing market went to hell there and houses are dirt cheap. I know I could look it up, but its hard to figure out which houses are in decent locations, and which are in rough locations. Many of the houses here (like mine) can be had for half of what they cost a few years ago. The problem now is getting a loan. Unless you have a credit score well north of 700, or a big down payment, it's going to be tough to get a mortgage.

Do you have any type of ball park figure for how much a average house in a decent part of town would go for? And what percentage of the value of the house do you need to put down on the loan if you dont have good credit?

How many bedrooms, bathrooms, sq footage, etc do you want? Do you want a pool, do you want to live on a golf course and / or gated community? Right now you really have your pick of anything you possible want, there is sooo much inventory. You'll probably need 20% down if your credit sucks.

I dont know, 3 or 4 bedroom, 2 bath maybe? dont need a pool or golf course or gated community or anything like that. I dont have the money to buy anything like this right now so i dont know exactly what my spending limit is. I figure I could grind my ass off, and if i got together enough money to make the down payment I have a few friends out there who need a place to live and I could just have them live with me and basically pay the monthly loan payment with rent. So I don't know exactly what im looking to spend, just kinda trying to get a ball park figure of how much it would cost. It seems like a great time to invest in this type of shit. Only thing for sure is that I would want it to be in a decent part of town.
