Well, I played 5/10 limit for a long time grinding out slightly more than a call center job, then found NL and was able to make plenty without playing anywhere near as many hours, and now the NL games are really tough. I think 1/2 is fish central, but it's getting tougher and 2/4 and up are pretty bad games. Not to say there aren't good games now and again, but generally if you're a good player, the other players will be doing similar stuff to you, and working to find places to exploit. So, I played a little 10/20 6m on stars yesterday and today because I was running poorly in NL games, and WOW!
Limit is booming. People are limping 68c UTG and probably not folding if it comes back capped. There are definitely a LOT more very weak and poor players in the midstakes limit games now than midstakes NLHE.
I expect these things to go in cycles. For instance, if all of the legal confusion in the US is finally put to bed, and depositing and withdrawing are made very easy again, I expect to see a lot more extremely weak NL players. For now, though, it looks like unless you want to play fewer tables and really put in effort to gain an edge on reasonably good competition, LHE is where the loose money and big winrates are.

QUOTE(ineeda2outer @ Oct 21 2008, 01:53 PM) 15/30 is tough though? or you put it with 10/20? I played one session of it yesterday, there were 2 big fish, a couple solid players and one that looked like a pretty bad reg. The other games looked similar, but one of the ones running looked tough. So, yeah, I'd say it pretty much applies to 15/30. This morning I saw a 50/100 running with 2 big fish in it, too. My bankroll can't handle it yet, but I desperately wanted to play.

It might not always have fish, but I've seen a lot of good games recently. I also don't know about 100/200 or whatever Druff plays. Just a midstakes player.

QUOTE(benhogan @ Oct 22 2008, 10:20 PM) QUOTE(sonatine @ Oct 22 2008, 03:35 PM) curious to get druff's opinion on the state of things but im surprised that LHE is fishy on stars, of all places.. He played one session, everyone is fishy in the limit games on stars..... To be fair, I was commenting on one session at 15/30. It was ~6 sessions of 10/20, on weekdays. After about 50 more sessions, about 4:1 10/20:15/30, I stand by it. You clearly don't play NLHE. Fact is, there are ACTUALLY FISH at the mid-limits constantly in these limit games. They donate on a regular basis with ~25% chance of breaking even per session. In NLHE these days, if you find a fish at a 2/4 table or higher, and I mean an actual fish, not just someone who opens QJo UTG at a six max NL table and calls down with a pair of queens, although that would nearly make me wet considering the state of the games today, they buy in for half a stack or less and they quit after getting stacked. Occasionally a fish buys in full and reloads once, but that's the end of that. And there's usually only one of those per 20 six max tables running. In limit there are people making fundamental mistakes on a regular basis. I'll excuse your response on the off-chance that you're not a professional player. When I played limit games on stars exclusively a couple years ago, the only people who berated other players were, astoundingly, the second-worst player at the table chasing a total fish away. I assume that's you, Ben. Anyway, people are throwing around an exciting amount of money at the mid-limits on a regular basis these days. This was the point of my post. It was true, my initial reaction was valid, and I stand by this previous post after logging a lot more hours in these games.

My innocent little comment brought all of that out of you? Well I thank you as I got a kick out of reading it. For some reason as I read your response it came out in Dwight’s voice from the office. Hilarity. I have a suggestion. Rather than blame your recent loses on the precept of NL games getting tougher, tighter, filled with pros etc, why not look within and ask yourself if maybe its variance or *gasp* your game needs fine tuning. I know nothing about you ( well only that you live in Nova Scotia, are addicted to drugs /booze and you occasionally think about ending your life) so I have no clue how you play poker and maybe you have looked at your game closely. Oh and one more thing, if I’m the second worst player at the table that means I’m sitting there for a reason, think about it.
