Time for bed...alone again....
Please do not detect any resentment in my tone. There is none. I am simply stating the reality of another evening in the life of a "poker widow".
I am excited about starting this blog, as I see it as an opportunity to connect with other spouses or partners of poker players in order to possibly promote a support system for those of us devoted to supporting this crazy "call" to the world of poker.
You know, having the whole bed all to myself is not all that bad! I really do enjoy living the poker life vicariously through my husband, with the thrill of the wins and chill of the losses without the anxiety or stress of being the one holding the cards!
My husband has quickly gone from a small time cash game player to a full time, 5 night a week player, traveling more and more. It is very important that I continue to support him in his endeavors and let him know that I believe in his skills; but I will also be the first to tell you that this support is taxing on the soul. Maintaining a daytime career, children, and a household on completely opposite schedules proposes its own challenges. Probably these same challenges prove to be true for any couple on alternating schedules...but those of you that know what it means to be a "poker widow" know that the committment to supporting your partner in this endeavor is more than just alternate schedules! It comes with dangeling questions, sleepless nights, luxurious hotel rooms, great travel and extremely proud moments!
I plan to post to this blog as often as possible to document the ups and downs, ins and outs, and emotional webs weaved in the daily life of.....
a Poker Widow.
