After a seven-week World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, the 2010 November Nine were established and prepared, as well as could be, for a four-month break before their final table. There were 7,319 players who started the journey on July 5, 2010, and nearly two weeks of play thinned the field to 27 on Day 7. That brought them to Day 8, when play continued to find the November Nine. Along the way, several notables were eliminated, such as Johnny Lodden in 27th place ($317,161), William Thorson in 22nd ($317,161), Scott Clements in 18th ($396,967), Matt Affleck in 15th ($500,165), Hasan Habib in 14th ($500,165), and Adam Levy in 12th ($635,011). With the near-midnight elimination of Pascal LeFrancois in 11th place ($635,011), the last ten were seated together at one table.

One more player had to be eliminated before the tournament found its ultimate table of nine players. It took nearly six hours for it to happen, but it was eventually Brandon Steven on the short stack who pushed his last 4,475,000 chips all-in. Matthew Jarvis made the call with qs - qc, and it was a race against the ac - ks of Steven. The board of 4h - 3d - tc - 4c - 5h ended it, and Steven left in 10th place with $635,011.

From the total prize pool of $68,798,600, the last nine players were to compete for the following prizes when they returned in November:

1st $8,944,138
2nd $5,545,855
3rd $4,129,979
4th $3,092,497
5th $2,332,960
6th $1,772,939
7th $1,356,708
8th $1,045,738
9th $811,823

And the players who would be seated at that coveted WSOP Main Event table were:
